CHAPTER - 7

I stepped out of the dressing room, tugging lightly at the cuff of my t-shirt.

The cool night breeze slipped in through the balcony curtains, stirring the scent of roses that still hung heavy in the air.

My gaze instinctively fell on the bed and there she was.

Arisha.

Asleep.

Her face calm, untouched by the storms she stirred. One hand rested near her cheek, strands of hair brushing her face.

For a moment… she didn’t look like the woman who had turned my wedding into a battlefield.

She looked almost peaceful, like someone who had carried wars within her and finally allowed herself to rest.

A faint smile tugged at the corner of my lips as I walked closer, seating myself beside her.

I didn’t even realise when my fingers brushed a strand of hair away from her face.

“You really know how to challenge me,” I whispered, my voice low, careful not to wake her. “From the very first moment, you walked in like you owned the world… and maybe, tonight, you do.”

She didn’t stir, only breathed softly but that calm face made something twist inside me.

“I don’t want our relation to become a battle,” I continued, eyes fixed on her sleeping form. “But my pride… it doesn’t let me lose, Arisha. Not even to you.”

My hand clenched slightly. “Still… I want to pamper you. To give you everything you’ve ever desired. Fulfil your every command. But just ask me, Jaan. Don’t fight me for it.”

The room was quiet, the kind of silence that carried weight.

“If you ever just say it once,” I murmured, my voice breaking into a whisper, “I’ll leave my throne for you.”

My fingers brushed the back of her hand. “You don’t even know what you’ve done, Arisha. You’ve made a king bow in ways no one ever could.”

For a long time, I just sat there, watching her breathe.. steady, serene, unaware of the storm she had become inside me.

Finally, I leaned back, eyes still on her, and exhaled slowly. “Sleep peacefully tonight, Queen. Because tomorrow, our war begins again.”

I blinked as a faint ray of sunlight slipped through the heavy curtains, brushing across my face. My body stirred unwillingly, the softness beneath me unfamiliar.. too luxurious, too quiet.

For a moment, I didn’t move.

Where… am I?

My eyes fluttered open, scanning the large, elegantly furnished room, every inch screaming royalty.

The walls were adorned with paintings, the scent of sandalwood lingered in the air, and the bed I lay upon could probably fit my entire old apartment.

Not because I can't afford luxury but because it was the only place which give me peace.

And then… it hit me.

I froze. My fingers gripped the blanket.

I’m married now.

A strange heaviness settled in my chest. Something I couldn’t name. I turned my head slowly to the other side of the bed… and found it untouched.

The sheet was perfectly straight, the pillow undisturbed.

I frowned. Did he not sleep here last night?

For a man who had gone to such lengths to marry me, planning Kiara’s escape, manipulating everything to ensure I ended up in the mandap.. he sure acted indifferent afterward.

I pushed the blanket aside, my feet touching the soft carpet.

“What does this guy even want from me?” I muttered under my breath, rubbing my temple.

“He plans the whole runaway drama just to marry me, and now he doesn’t even bother saying a word? No gloating, no taunts, not even a smug smile? Just… silence?”

It was infuriating.

My eyes flicked around the room again, everything was perfect. Every tiny thing a girl might need was already there, neatly arranged like a princess’s chamber.

Dresses, jewellery, accessories, makeup.. all untouched.

I crossed my arms. “Is this his way of controlling me? Surround me with everything I could ever want so I can’t complain?”

But the more I thought about it, the less sense it made.

He had power, pride, control yet he didn’t even claim what he’d fought for. Didn’t demand obedience, didn’t question me. He just… stepped back.

I sighed and muttered softly, “Yugant Singh Raghuvanshi, you are a puzzle I don’t know if I want to solve or burn.”

Just as I turned toward the vanity, I heard the faint sound of footsteps.. slow, steady, confident.

That familiar dominating rhythm that made even silence seem to bow.

My heartbeat stuttered.

The next moment, the door creaked open. And there he was.

Yugant Singh Raghuvanshi.

Dressed in a black sleeveless training vest and joggers, his body glistened with sweat. Every muscle in his arms flexed with movement, the sharp lines of his jaw tightening as he pulled off his gloves. His intense eyes  swept across the room before landing on me.

For a second, neither of us moved.

My breath hitched.

He wasn’t saying anything, but the weight of his gaze was enough to make my pulse race. I could almost feel the heat radiating from him, mixed with that raw masculine energy that made the air feel heavier.

And that smirk.. subtle, unreadable played at his lips like he knew exactly what effect he was having on me.

Before he could open his mouth, I spun around and hurried straight toward the washroom. My heart drummed wildly as I shut the door behind me and leaned against it.

“What the hell was that?” I whispered to myself, pressing a hand to my chest.

It was just him.. sweaty, intimidating, all ‘King of the World’ vibes but still him. And yet, I felt… flustered? Why?

I took a deep breath, trying to calm the ridiculous flutter in my stomach. “No, Arisha. You don’t get nervous. You make people nervous.”

Still, my reflection in the mirror betrayed me, cheeks slightly flushed, eyes wide. I turned on the tap and splashed some water on my face.

Outside, I heard him moving around.. slow, deliberate like he was giving me time but also making sure I knew he was there.

And I hated to admit it… but it worked. I was acutely aware of every sound, every step.

What is this man’s game?

AUTHOR'S POV

Arisha descended the grand staircase with slow, graceful steps, her hands gently lifting the edge of her dupatta.

The morning sun filtered through the tall windows of the Raghuvanshi mansion, bathing her in a soft golden glow. Her presence drew every eye in the room,  not just because she was the new queen, but because there was something regal and untamed about her poise.

Yugant was already seated in the living room, his posture straight and commanding, the newspaper in his hand untouched as if waiting for her.

His gaze briefly lifted, and for a fraction of a second, the edge in his expression softened before returning to its usual unreadable calm.

Arisha greeted everyone with folded hands and touched the elders’ feet.

Prabhakar blessed her warmly, while Vasundhara and Vidya merely nodded, their faces giving away their restrained disapproval.

Amrita cupped her face lovingly, her tone tender, “You look beautiful, Arisha. Just like a true queen should.”

Mahika came bouncing near her, grinning wide. “Bhabhi, you look stunning! Bhai will definitely skip a heartbeat if he looks at you like this.”

Yugant raised an eyebrow at his sister’s teasing but didn’t comment, though a ghost of a smirk touched his lips.

Before Arisha could respond, Amrita gently reminded, “Arisha, today you’ll have to perform your pehli rasoi. It’s an important tradition for a new bride.”

Arisha opened her mouth to answer, but before a word could escape, Yugant’s voice cut through the room, calm but firm, carrying authority that made even the elders go still.

“She is not performing this today.”

All heads turned toward him.

Vasundhara frowned, folding her hands over her saree’s edge. “What are you saying, Yugant? It’s ritual. She has to do it today, it’s custom in our family.”

Yugant’s gaze lifted, sharp and unyielding. “I said she is not doing anything today.”

The silence that followed was thick, laced with disbelief.

Even Arisha turned slightly to look at him, her brows furrowing. But his tone left no space for argument, it wasn’t arrogance, but a command from a king who wasn’t used to being questioned.

Vasundhara’s lips tightened, but before she could speak again, he continued coldly, “I am taking her with me. Once we return, she will complete every ritual expected from her.”

Prabhakar, who had been watching quietly, gave a subtle nod, breaking the rising tension. “Let them go, Vasundhara. He’s her husband now, he has every right to decide.”

Vasundhara huffed under her breath but stepped back, clearly displeased. Vidya shared a look with her, both murmuring something about “modern brides” and “forgotten traditions.”

Amrita simply smiled faintly, understanding her son’s nature too well.

Mahika whispered to Arisha, “Don’t worry, bhabhi, when bhai says something, no one dares question him, not even dadi.”

Arisha’s gaze flickered toward Yugant. She wasn’t sure whether to be surprised, grateful, or wary. One thing was certain, her husband ruled every room he walked into.

Yugant folded the newspaper, his movements crisp and deliberate, before standing up from his seat.

His towering presence alone was enough to silence the faint murmurs that had started among the elders.

Adjusting the cuffs of his black shirt, he turned toward Arisha, his voice calm but final, “Let’s go.”

There was no room for argument in his tone, but strangely, Arisha didn’t feel compelled to question it.

She only nodded once, her eyes briefly meeting his, there was an unspoken understanding, or maybe a challenge, lingering between them.

The sound of their footsteps echoed through the vast marble-floored hallway as they walked side by side, the staff bowing slightly as they passed.

Outside, the morning breeze carried the faint scent of roses from the garden, mixing with the low hum of engines as the convoy waited for their king and queen.

As soon as they reached the car, the chauffeur hurried forward to open the door, but Yugant’s hand shot up in silent command, stopping him.

“I’ll drive today,” he said, his deep voice steady.

The driver froze mid-step, confusion flashing across his face. “But, sir-”

“Leave,” Yugant interrupted, eyes narrowing slightly. “Take the rest of the convoy back. I don’t need anyone today.”

The head of security, standing a few feet away, hesitated. “But Rana Sa, we can’t-”

Yugant’s gaze shifted to him.. sharp, cold, and absolute. It was enough.

The man swallowed and nodded quickly, signaling the guards and drivers to withdraw.

Arisha quietly watched the scene unfold, her lips curving in a faint smirk. “You always make people follow your command without question, don’t you?”

Yugant opened the passenger door for her, his tone calm but edged with amusement. “Only when I mean it.”

Without waiting for her reply, he closed the door gently once she was seated, then circled around to the driver’s side.

As he slid in, his movements were controlled, precise like a man who knew he was always in charge of everything he touched.

The car engine roared to life, and as they pulled out of the mansion gates, Arisha turned her face toward the window, watching the palace fade behind them.
